MIGUEL ALMIEDA

Miguel Almeida is a Boise based illustrator and visual artist. His prints explore his heritage as a first generation Mexican American, where the majority of his family dedicated their lives to working in agriculture here in Idaho.

Miguel's work transforms everyday imagery of labor and domestic pastimes through bright colors and whimsical prints. He is inspired by the traditional architecture, ceramics, clothing, and even pastries of Mexican culture, with a particular love of "Alebrijes", fantastical animals of Mexican folklore.

In 2020 he received funding to purchase a new screen printing press.

"It is incredibly inspiring to come from a community

and family that left their home and moved to a place that was foreign to them; all in search of a better life. It keeps me motivated to chase my dream of living a creative life."
