A full lyric operatic Tenor, Ian Kelly has made a name for himself as one of the top emerging tenors in the pacific northwest. After years in professional musical theatre and barbershop quartet singing, Ian made the switch to classical voice. With the help of the Alexa Rose Foundation, Ian spent four weeks in Lucca, Italy in 2018 to participate in the Accademia Vocale Lorenzo Malfatti— an elite, highly immersive program for operatic vocal development, with courses in Italian, music and culture.
Ian is finishing his vocal performance degree at Boise State University under the tutelage of Sue Patchell and Brett Hamilton, and is preparing to move to Seattle, WA to pursue opera full time with his wife Sabrina and daughter Rosalie.
In 2018, Alexa Rose assisted in funding Ian’s trip to Lucca, Italy. In 2019 he was awarded a second grant to pay for vocal coaching to prepare for company auditions.
